There are some areas in London which are extremely expensive such as Mayfair and Belgravia. You can find people in these towns with security outside their houses.

RE: London Calling - for the rich?

London is a great destination for foodies because it has got all the most famous and renowned culinary food chains in the world. I was born in London, and spent the first 25 years of my life there. And have also returned since for a holliday. Everything is - funnily enough - priced almost exactly as it is here in NZ. But you have to remember that is 3 x your dollar.

Those contemplating the trip (like the poster above) should be watching exchange rates on a daily basis and choosing the right times to "swoop" into a bank and get some pounds sterling.

I also strongly recommend good, comprehensive travel insurance. "Petty" crime is rampant there. From hotel-room break-ins to have your pockets pinched.

And for those who wish to use the UK as a "stepping-stone" for a foray into Europe, do visit Kent (a most beautiful, historic county). From Dover, you can hop onto a ferry to France or Belgium. I know airfares are cheap but they are an enormous hassle to book and airport queues are so dull and time-consuming.

RE: London Calling - for the rich?

How about your budget for traveling to UK.
You'll need a huge amount on your pocket, my friend says that bread is the substitute for rice.
Believed me you'll never be hungry as long as you have a huge size of bread :).

___________________
Vitamins from Nature, Travel Discounts

RE: London Calling - for the rich?

Hey there,
Why don't you list a few here? Would love to take a note as i'm going to UK in 2010!

London Calling - for the rich?

I read the article entitled 'London Calling' which listed all the fabulous hotels and restaurants in the Big Smoke. That was interesting in itself, but to be honest as a 'normal' person with a 'normal' wage, these are places that I would never go into because the prices are astronomical. Having lived in London for a few years, I found a wonderful range of affordable and stylish (dare I say it, trendy) restaurants that deserve a mention. Particularly around the streets of Soho. It would be great to see some of these reviewed.
