This time of year always seems to make me stressed, but this year takes the cake. I'm working longer hours to try and tie things up before the Christmas break and now that my husband has been made redundant I'm feeling even more pressure. I should be working 40 hours a week but it's more like 55 at the moment.

Does anyone have any tips on coping with overwork?

I like to do social things throughout the week, not just on weekends, such as meeting up with friends on my lunch break or catching a cheap-Tuesday movie. It makes the week last longer, lowers stress levels and blurs that distinct line between work and play.

Keep active Jane! Getting out and about and going for walks or runs each day will clear your mind and stop you from burning out.

Jane. Maybe you should talk to your boss. He/she might not even know that you are struggling with the hours. I understand that you want to earn money especially as you're the sole earner at the moment (I'm in a similar situation myself), but in the long run there's no point burning yourself out. Can you chat to your boss and agree that you can work overtime on some days but not on others?

Organise yourself. Make sure you know what's urgent and make sure you have worked out realistic deadlines (where possible, and where not hey you're only human!) Soon as you have your list of importance, start on the thing the needs doing ASAP and forget about all else until you finish it. Then move onto the next thing on your list. Don't look back, don't look over it again just go one by one by one.

And remember you are one person doing the best you can.

I also agree with the others, have lunch out of the work place, even if you just sit on the grass in the sun.

Hope things have settled now that christmas is over!
